The Legal Officer reports to the Executive Director of the Commission. The main responsibility of the Legal Officer will be to provide legal advice to the Commission.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Providing legal advice to the Commission in accordance with the set parameters;
  • Drafting and reviewing, legislation, Statutory Instruments, Directives, and Circulars;
  • Attend public hearings on legislation affecting the Commission;
  • Drafting and reviewing contracts;
  • Providing legal advice on legal issues affecting the Commission;
  • Conducting legal research;
  • Advise the Commission on regulatory Compliance matters in accordance with the applicable legislation, set standards, and international best practice;
  • Analyse and identify legal risks and implications;
  • Attend meetings with various Ministries or other stakeholders on behalf of the Commission;
  • Represent the Commission at local, regional, and international workshops, conferences, and seminars;
  • Drafting and maintaining legal reports;
  • Managing legal and litigation processes in Liaison with external lawyers;
  • Assisting with Company Secretarial and compliance duties.

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes

  • A Law Honors degree from a reputable University
  • Be a Registered member of The Law Society of Zimbabwe
  • A Certificate in legislative drafting is a distinct advantage
  • A Master’s Degree in Law is an added advantage
  • Experience At least 3 years’ post qualification relevant experience, preferable from the public sector
  • An appreciation of company secretarial and compliance duties
  • An appreciation of corporate governance issues in relation to public entities
  • Excellent Drafting skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain utmost confidentiality
